Recommended Transmission Cooler for 2011 Honda Odyssey Carrying Kayak or Canoe
Question:
Good afternoon. Im going to buy some roof racks and cross bars from you to carry a canoe and maybe a kayak. The van doesnt have a transmission cooler. Is it a good idea to add one if the main additional cargo will be a canoe / kayak? Im capable of making the changes to the transmission, but honestly - Ive really only had manual transmissions up until this point, so Im a little lost as to what is actually a good idea to protect an automatic transmission also the main reason I had manual transmissions. Thank you for your time.

For your canoe and kayak, the Inno Locker Watersport Carrier w/ Crossbar Pads - Locking - Clamp On - 1 Boat or 2 Boards # INA446 is my recommendation. In regards to adding a transmission cooler to your 2011 Honda Odyssey it is never a bad idea but it isn't required. Normally a transmission cooler is seen as more of a requirement when towing a trailer, but the idea of adding one especially because you are obviously comfortable doing so is always a benefit. I recommend the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient # D13503. I've attached a video to assist with the installation.
If you haven't yet decided on a roof rack made up of parts: # TH711420, # THTP42, # TH460R, # THKIT3101. This rack is made of premium, aerodynamic crossbars attached to Thule feet to create a quiet, stylish roof rack for your vehicle.
