Troubleshooting Missing Functions When Installing New 7-Way Connector on 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500
Question:
I have a 05 silverado 1500 standard cab short bed silverado and I replaced the factory trailer connector with a Hopkins 7 pin connector, I have power and running lights but I do not have brake light, left or right signals, or hazzards. The color of wires on mine are red, blue, black, yellow, brown, green, and light green, but there is no white wire. I first tried placing the wire in the color code order thats on the plug and none of my lights worked, then I tried putting the wires on in different steps with no success, I finally discovered that my brown wire is the auxiliary power and black is the ground, I tried placing the other wires for signals and brake lights with no success, is there something I could be doing wrong or will i have to add wires to it, thank you.

When installing a 7-Way connector like the Hopkins # HM40975 on your 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 you'll want to match up the wires by function instead of by color. I have attached a photo showing what the function of each pin should be on a typical 7-Way.
If you have been testing each wire and you aren't able to find all of your circuits then you likely have some fuses that need to be replaced. You can find out which ones you'll need to check by looking it up in your owner's manual.
