Replacement Wheels and Tires for 4.8-12 Trailer Tires with White Wheels and 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern
Question:
Am looking for 2 trailer tires to replace existing 4.8-12 tires on a watercraft trailer. This will be for towing a small boat Dinghy which has a total weight of 500 lbs. Im confused by the tire dimensions. I had a 3-3/4 wide tread and took it to a local auto shop and they wanted to sell me a tread which was 3-1/4 wide. Same nameplate 4.8-12. Whats with the difference in tread width? What tread width do you offer? Only need two tires - no wheels unless you have white 5 hole wheels couldnt find white on your web site. Thanks!

I'll start off by saying that when it comes to reading the 4.8-12 tire size you're referencing, the 4.8 number refers to the size of the section width- 4.8"; the second number is the wheel diameter. Section width is the total width from sidewall to sidewall on the tires, but the tread width you're referring to is just the measurement of the crown of the tire. They were selling you basically the same tire and the difference in tread width is really negligible at the end of the day; it also could come down to a difference with measurements of mounted vs unmounted tires.
With that said, Kenda does not provide the tread width of tires like the Kenda 353 which is the tire on the # AM30660 as a standard measurement but it's going to be roughly 1" less than the section width, so it will be fairly close to the 3-3/4" that you measured on your old tires. The wheels that come on the # AM30660 package are white wheels with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, which should match your existing ones, and provide you with the same traction you're used to.
