Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2014 Jeep Cherokee With Duncan II Tow Bar

Question:

I have a Duncan II that was used to pull a Jeep Wrangler. I would also like to set up my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude V6 with 2 speed transfer case to flat tow. I know I need the RM-038 adapter base plate but am unclear as to what else is required. Which base plates do I need quick disconnects for and which ones are ready as is? What would you suggest for lighting and braking. In addition note my Wrangler YJ 1995 I4 with a 5 speed manual was never set up for with any tow brakes. Is there a system that would easily go back and forth between the two vehicles depending on which one I am towing?

As you mentioned, you'll need the # RM-038 adapter which will allow your Duncan tow bar to work with a Roadmaster base plate. You'll want to use the Roadmaster EZ4 base plate, part # RM-521447-4. The EZ5 base plate you'd looked at part # RM-521451-5 isn't compatible with the # RM-038 adapter.

To complete your towing system, you'll need safety cables, a wiring solution, a supplemental braking system and possibly a high/low adapter if the height difference between the installed base plates and the receiver on the motorhome is greater than 3 inches.

For safety cables, use # RM-643. For wiring, I'd recommend the # RM-15267. The 2014 Cherokee will also need the 68321424AB Mopar Recreational Wiring Harness available from the dealer, which prevents the vehicle from getting a death wobble while flat towing. For a supplemental braking system, I'd recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake, part # RM-9400. You'll also need the # RM-751471 stop lamp switch. The Even Brake would also be compatible with your 1995 Wrangler and since its a portable system, you'll be able to easily move it back and forth.

As for the high/low adapter, assuming your Cherokee is at stock ride height using the stock 225/65-17 tires, the base plates would install so they're approximately 17-1/2 inches above ground. If the receiver on your motorhome isn't within +/- 3 inches of this height, you'll need the proper adapter to bring it within that range. I'll link you to our selection of high/low adapters.
