Installing Tekonsha Primus TK90160 on 2016 Ford F-150
Question:
Hi, I am transferring the Tekonsha Primus IQ from my old truck to a 2016 F150 with out a factory brake controller. My question is when I plug it into the factory wiring harness do I have to take it to a dealer to have it re-programmed? Thank you,

No you won't. Simply plug the # TK90160 Tekonsha Primus into the # 22292 brake control wiring harness then plug the harness into the factory connector clipped to the rear of the small pocket in the dash just right of the steering column. I've linked to an install video showing how to access that. The video shows a different brake controller being installed, but the procedure would be the same.
Since the vehicle does NOT have the factory controller, you won't need to have anything reprogrammed. On vehicles that do have the factory brake controller, you'd unplug the factory connector then plug in the # 22292 as shown in the video. It'll throw an error code on the dash display, but the controller will still work. If the error bothers you, you can take the vehicle to a Ford dealer to have it removed, or you can use FORSCAN which is a free download that will allow you to change that yourself. You'll need a laptop with a USB to OBDII adapter cord which you can find online.
