Recommended 3" Boat Trailer Winch Strap for 7,200 Lb Boat

Question:

I am looking to replace my winch strap on my boat trailer as mine is pretty old and I want a new one before this one decides to break. I have a 7200 pound boat that is 27 foot long. My winch strap is 3 inches wide. What should my working load limit be and my break strength be?

The general recommendation we make for boat trailer winches is a 2:1 ratio, therefore the winch strap will need to be rated for at least half the weight of the boat but this is assuming you have some sort of rollers/bunk boards. The Fulton Heavy-Duty Winch Strap with Hook part # F501204 which has a 4,000 lb working load limit and 10,000 lb break strength rating will be a great option.
