Can I Open Back Hatch of Mazda CX-30 with Bike Rack Installed?

Question:

Hi, I was wondering if I put the rack on my CX-30 would I still be able to open my back hatch with the rack on? Without bikes of course. Thank you :

It is common for people to raise their hatch with a trunk mount style bike rack still attached while the bikes are removed but we do not recommend it. The top strap would hold the bike rack in place while raising and lowering the hatch but we have been told stories of racks slipping and hitting peoples heads. The lower straps run the risk of coming loose so you will need to properly secure them once you are done. This may be a hassle if you plan on leaving your bike rack on and use your hatch often. I should also mention that per the manufactures warranty it is not advised to raise your hatch with the bike rack on. You run the risk of damaging or wearing out the struts that raise and lower your hatch. Another issue is the bike rack may shift causing damage to your vehicle.

The Yakima FullBack # Y02634 is a confirmed fit for your 2020 Mazda CX-30. The FullBack is one of the most secure trunk mount bike racks that we offer.

If you plan to keep your bike rack on your Mazda CX-30 all the time a great option is the Thule OutWay 2-Bike rack, part # TH945JV. It does come at a higher price and has the same issue when it comes leaving it on your hatch because it is a little heavier than the FullBack but I have found it is much quicker and easier to install. The 2 strap design tends to hold in place better and since it is so much easier and quicker to install, you could remove it to gain access to your hatch. It really only takes seconds to set up. It is the easiest that we have every seen.
