Can I Install a Wall Switch on a MaxxAir MaxxFan Roof Vent

Question:

The fan I replaced the 6401k with had a rocker switch on the fan itself and a wall switch. We would leave the rocker switch onfoot and use only the wall switch. Is it possible to do this with the 6401k? If not is there a wall switch I could use compatible with my unit so I dont have to turn on/off or adjust speed on the unit itself?

We've actually had this one asked before and have consulted with MaxxAir. Even though you can technically install the MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent # MA00-06401K wired to a separate switch, it is not recommended. The reason for this is that their fans are designed to have a constant 12V feed, and when an external switch is used there will be a short spike in voltage every time the switch is turned on, which over time could potentially cause issues with the circuit board on the vent.

Additionally, if you were to install a wall switch it would allow you to turn the fan on and off but you would still need to control the settings on the fan itself via the panel on the vent. Keep in mind though that with this setup the fan speed would reset everytime you turn it off which would require you to bump it up to your desired speed every time it's turned back on.

If you're looking for a unit that can be controlled with a wall switch, the MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan, Thermostat, and Remote - Powered Lift - 10 Speed - White # MA00-07000K would be a good option since it comes with a remote control that has a holder that can be mounted on the wall. This would be comparable to the functionality that you're seeking and doesn't require you to do anything that might potentially damage the unit in the process.

I've linked a review video of this unit for you to have a look at.
