How Do I Get the Smaller Bolts Started on the Curt 13575 Hitch on my 2013 Mazda CX-9
Question:
The two smaller bolts that came with the hitch do not go in. All the larger ones went in without issue, but the two small bolts seem to be too big for the hole. I tried a wire brush and wd40 to make sure it was clean. Cannot get them in at all.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13575 uses a M8 - 1.25 thread pitch bolt for the smaller size. Since you have attempted to use the brush and lubricant process and have not been successful you will need to get a tap to clean it out. Get a M8 - 1.25 tap from a local hardware or parts store and this will solve the problem.
It is unfortunate but we run into this a lot in our area because of the rust our vehicles tend to get combined with the dirt roads we have makes a mess sometimes. This is the strategy we use all of the time and you will be successful. Please keep in mind that you will want to loosen all of the bolts when you are attempting to install this one so it will have the best opportunity to start. Once they are all started tighten them back down to the appropriate torque specification.
