The Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller Will Not Level and the Light Stays Red
Question:
I bought a 2003 Ford F150 with a Voyager that the previous owner installed. I had one on my old truck 2001 Frontier that worked fine with my camper trailer. But when I went to level the sensor on the Ford it doesnt work as it should. With power knob turned up max and brake applied the light stays solid red. It does not stay green and is not adjustable to orange with level knob. Two different guys told me to put power knob at 12:00 and then adjust level knob. Is this OK? Any ideas why the sensor wont work properly like theistructions say? The controller is mounted almost perfectly horizontal under dash. Should I try to disconnect wires to reset sensor?

I do recommend starting over from the beginning of the instructions, linked for reference. Removing the power for awhile will cause the controller to reset itself. Once that is done, make sure that the controller is not tilted or turned to the side as indicated in the instructions.
For an analog device, the leveler is fairly sensitive. I have had just one click of the knob be all the difference from being incorrect to correct when I have tested this controller.
I have also adjusted the level knob in alternate methods not specified in the directions so it is possible to try it to see if that works but only after you have tried letting it reset and level it according to the instructions.
Also make sure that you are parked on level ground and that the trailer is connected to the truck in order for the controller to level correctly. If nothing seems to work, try a different trailer if you have one available. If you are able to level it with a different trailer that would indicate that the trailer is drawing power for some reason (such as a shorted brake magnet or a corroded connector).
