Fit of Yakima SuperJoe on 2007 Honda CR-V with Wing Spoiler
Question:
I have a 2007 Honda CRV with a sports package. I have the sport hood over the back hatch window. I was going to purchase the Y02638 but need to know if the hood will impair me from in stalling or cause a problem?

If the spoiler wing at the top of your liftgate is plastic, you will not be able to install a trunk mounted bike rack unless there is a gap under the spoiler for the rack mounting hooks to pass through and attach to the top of the hatch. If the straps would need to pass over the top of the spoiler wing, the wing would not be strong enough to support the weight of the rack and the bikes without being deformed or damaged.
In this case, your best bet would be to install a receiver hitch like part # 75547. You could then use the bike rack of your choice. The Swagman Trailhead, part # S63360 is an highly rated and economically priced option that provides important features like anti-sway cradles and sturdy rubber straps that secure the bikes to the rack.
If the wing is metal, you will be able to install the Yakima HangOut # Y02638 rack with no worries.
To carry womens bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # 64005 is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and provides a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike has greater ground clearance and is not carried at an angle.
