Parts Needed To Bypass TIPM On a 2006 Dodge Ram
Question:
Do I need both an Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit w/ 4-Pole Connector and Circuit Tester Item # 119178KIT plus an Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires Item # ETBC7 to complete a bypass of the TIPM on my 2006 Dodge Ram. This pickup has a previously installed Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 and part # 3020-P purchased from etrailer.com and installed by me. The Tekonsha Controller performs exactly as it should. The problem Ive been having is very similar to those described in your QandA Bypassing Dodge Ram TIPM for Trailer Wiring Solution reply by Jameson C. Im asking for a bit of clarification before I place an order. Thanks.

In order to bypass the TIPM on a 2006 Dodge Ram you'll indeed need both the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit w/ 4-Pole Connector and Circuit Tester part # 119178KIT and Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7. The Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter will obtain the trailer lighting signals from behind the tail lights therefore won't be tied into the trailer lighting circuits. The Universal Installation Kit will then wire directly to the controller's brake output wire.
