Can Weight Distribution be Used on a 2001 Lexus LX 470 with Self-Leveling Rear Suspension
Question:
I own a 2001 Lexus LX470 with factory self-leveling suspension. Is there a need to use this system on this specific vehicle, since the vehicle itself will adjust to the tongue load? Previously we used to tow our 25foot travel trailer with a 1997 Land Rover Discovery with mechanical suspension and it worked great. Im just concern that the force created by this system will damage or interfere with the suspension on the Lexus.

You can use a weight distribution system on a vehicle with a self-leveling rear suspension like your 2001 Lexus LX470. Weight distribution can still be a good idea because it does more than just take out the rear end sag of a vehicle, it also distributes the weight more evenly to all axles of the tow vehicle and trailer.
The way you would set it up is to connect the trailer and allow the suspension to level it. Then you would put the spring bars into position. This may cause the system to re-level itself but that is normal. If you can turn the self-leveling system off, you could do so but on many vehicles this is not an option.
Weight distribution alone can also help with trailer sway but a system like # C17322 that you have referenced has built-in friction sway control as well. This system is rated for up to 1,000 pounds tongue weight capacity. Tongue weight in this case is the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
I have included a link to the installation instructions for this system and a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution and sway control for you.
