Bike Rack Recommendation for Carrying 3-Bikes on a 2019 Toyota Highlander

If you're wanting to use a trunk mount bike rack then I highly recommend the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 3 Bike Rack # HRF2-3 because it is specially designed to keep pressure off of the spoiler on your 2019 Toyota Highlander. All of the other trunk mount options are designed where the straps will be putting pressure on the spoiler. Even though this is okay, over time it could cause damage to the spoiler which is why I recommend this option.

Typically we try to steer people away from trunk mount racks simply because it's something that will be touching your vehicle, it keeps you from using your rear wiper, and you will have to remove all of the bikes and the bike rack itself to open up your rear hatch.

If you'd like to make things a little easier on yourself then the best option for you is to install the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13394 which has a hidden crosstube, and coupling that with the Thule Apex Swing XT # TH9027XT which allows you to completely open up your hatch without removing bikes or the bike rack.

Obviously the latter solution is more pricey, but it does keep more pressure off of your vehicle and you don't have to plan out what you'll be putting in the rear hatch area nearly as much when you're carrying your bikes.

I'm attaching review videos for both racks and the hitch for you to check out. If any of your bikes lacks a horizontal top tube then you'll need to use an adapter bar # TH982XT to help your bike sit level and have good ground clearance.

0
