Choosing Best Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2010 Toyota Tundra with 8 Foot Bed
Question:
I have a 2010 Toyota Tundra with a 8 foot bed. What is the right fifth wheel hitch and can it be removed?

Expert Reply:
The correct hitch for your needs will depend on the weight of the 5th wheel and which features are important to you.
You will want to choose a hitch whose weight capacity exceeds the fully-loaded and ready to tow weight of your 5th wheel.
At the next level, the Reese 16K # RP30047 uses a double jaw to secure the king pin. This system allows less movement of the king pin in the hitch, and causes less chucking (fore and aft movement of the 5th wheel) making towing a more pleasurable and stress-free experience.
I have linked you to the installation details for the install kit, as well as some product demonstration videos for a few of the hitches I mentioned.
At the top level, we have the Reese 20K, # RP30928 that uses a self latching single hook jaw that actually wraps itself around the king pin for minimum rattle. The extra wide funnel and pivoting head make hitching easier, even on uneven pavement.
Any of these hitches would use the # RP30035-309 install kit you mentioned.
If you plan on towing frequently, you would be better served by the mid or upper tier hitches I mentioned.
