Weight Distribution/ Sway Control For 2003 Ford Expedition Towing 6800 lb Trailer

Question:

I do not know the exact tongue weight of the trailer- but if it is between 10-15 as is generally accepted- that would put it between 680 and 1020lbs. will this particular part work?

Since it is possible that the tongue weight is over the 1000 lb capacity of the Pro Series, I would recommend that you confirm the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer as outlined in the FAQ article I have linked you to. You will also need to include the weight of anything stowed in the cargo area behind the rear axle with the tongue weight figure.

If you find that the trailer tongue weight is below 1000 lbs, the Pro Series W/D system you mentioned would work very well for you. If your trailer is longer than 26 feet, a second sway control unit, part # 83660 would be recommended.

If you find that your tongue weight is over 1000 lbs, you would need to go to a higher rated system like part # RP66542. The appropriately sized trailer ball with a 1-1/4 inch threaded shank and the friction sway control unit are sold separately. For a 2 inch ball, use part # A-90 or part # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.

I have also linked you to our FAQ article about Weight Distribution, which you might find helpful.
