Best Gooseneck Hitch To Use Reese Goose Box 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 Short Bed

Question:

Hi, My wife and I are considering buying a 2020 Silverado 3500HD, crew cab, standard short bed. Initially well be towing our current conventional travel trailer, but we plan on eventually getting a 5th wheel trailer. I would like to install a Reese Goosebox on the 5th wheel. A truck with the factory kit would be preferable, but that would not allow for an offset ball, if needed. A BandW gooseneck hitch would allow the use of an offset ball. I understand that the distance between the cab and the ball on the 2020 Silverados is longer than in previous years. Does this extra length result in adequate clearance for turns? Would I be better off buying a truck without the factory kit and installing a BandW gooseneck hitch instead? Are there other alternatives for gooseneck towing that will provide turning clearance with a 2020 Silverado standard bed? Thanks!

The Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter like part # RP85FR is designed for use on long bed trucks. That said, it can be used on short bed trucks but you may then have limited turning clearance. The amount of turning clearance varies from trailer to trailer so measuring is a must.

If you wish to use the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter on a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 then the best option is the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch part # BWGNRK1020 as you can then use the 4" Offset Ball for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitches part # BWGNXA4085.
