Troubleshooting 12v Power Wire Not Working on Trailer Connector on 2013 Ram 1500

Question:

Hi I checked the fuse f30for 12volt hot and it is good. I dont have any power to the black on my 7-way. The 7-way was factory with truck. Should this be working? What are some of the reasons it may not be working? Thanks

I would start by checking the wire for the 12v power supply directly behind the 7 way connector on your 2013 Ram 1500, which when looking at the back of the connector will be at the 1-o'clock position. You'll want to use a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to see if you're getting power on the wire itself. If you're getting power to the wire but not on the corresponding pin of the 7 way itself, the 7 way connector has likely gone bad and can be replaced with part # C55774.

If you're not getting power on the 12v at the 7 way connector you'll need to trace it back through the vehicle and check for a wire that might be damaged-either cut completely or cracked and touching the frame of the vehicle.

If you check this and don't find a resolution, let me know and I can look for some other things to look at but it would seem that there's got to be some damage on the 12v wire in this case.
