Roof Rack for 2016 Volvo XC70 to Carry Two Kayaks  

Question:

Hi there, I want to buy a Malone crossbar for my 2016 Volvo XC70 and I have a question about crossbar length. My mounting bars area bout 44 across from one another and Id like to mount two kayaks to the top. Can I get away with at 50 crossbar or do I need to do something wider? Your site recommends 58 but not 50 for my vehicle make and model. Thanks!

For your 2016 Volvo XC70 Malone recommends the 58 inch long version of their Aero bar kit part # MPG216 or the 65 inch long version part # MPG217. Based on the distance between your raised roof rails being 44 inches I don't see how the 50 inch bar version # MPG215 couldn't fit but that said when carrying multiple kayaks you typically want as long of bars as you can get away with so that you have adequate room.

We do have the Thule Compass # TH890000 which is a really awesome carrier for two kayaks. It can carry two kayaks on end on a padded surface which helps maximize bar space like you can see in the attached picture on this page.
