Sidewinder for Lippert 1621HD and 5th Wheel Hitch to Clear 2018 Ford F-350 Bed Rails

Question:

I have a 2018 F350 short bed. Purchasing new 5th wheel, 13K GVWR with pin box Lippert 1621HD. Investigating my alternatives to a sliding hitch. I think this is the Sidewinder V Is this the right hitch? Reese M5 and with the tall sides to the Ford beds, will this setup clear my bedrails? No OEM set up, will install bed rails. Thanks

According to my research, your 2018 Ford F-350 has bed rails which are 21.1" tall, and the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30928 has a maximum hitch height of 18", plus the roughly 1-1/4" of added height when taking into account the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50074-58.

With this height, and since the Sidewinder's pivot point is moved 22" rearward, you will not have any issue clearing the bed rails of your F-350 because the trailer will be up above them. Without a Sidewinder it would be an issue, but with this set up you're ready to go!

I can also confirm that the correct 5th Airborne Sidewinder for a Lippert 1621HD is the Sidewinder # RP34FR.
