Bike Rack for 2004 Toyota Rav4 That Allows Full Cargo Area Access

Question:

Do you have a bike rack that I can use, the swing racks wont work, I only have about 1 inch between the receiver and the door bottom, and it needs 9 1/2 inches to clear the spare tire cover. I have a right handed door, and have a 2 inch hitch that comes about to the end of the bumper. Thanks for your time.

If a rack with a two-bike capacity will work for you, you would be the perfect candidate for a spare tire mounted bike rack like the Yakima SpareRide 2, part # Y02599.

The SpareTime uses a mounting bracket that attaches between the spare tire and the tire mount on the back of your Rav4. The bike rack will then connect to the bracket. You will be able to open the door while the racks are in place, but Yakima recommends removing the bikes first in order to avoid damaging the rear door hinges.

Due to the approximately 1 inch of clearance between the top of your receiver and the bottom of your rear door, I cannot find a hitch mounted option that would allow you full access to the rear cargo area of your Rav4.

I have linked you to a product demonstration video featuring the SpareTime, as well as a video of the rack being installed on a 2009 Rav4.
