Do I Need a Frame Adapter to Carry Day6 Bikes

Question:

I am interested in these 2 bike racks for my 2016 Subaru Forester. We want to carry 2 Day 6 bikes which are probably classified as step through bikes. I saw the note about the POSSIBLE need for a bike frame adapter bar: Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar sold separately to mount a childrens, womens, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small childrens bikes will require a bike adapter bar. How do I know if I will need the adapter bar?

After looking through the Day6 website, when using the Yakima FullBack # Y02634, you will need to use a bike adapter bar like the Yakima # Y02531 to carry any of their bike models on any hanging or trunk mounted bike carrier. Generally speaking, unless the bike has a top tube (like most men's bikes) that is mostly parallel to the ground, you will need to use an adapter bar when using a trunk mount of hanging rack to carry your bikes.
