In order to tow a 5th wheel trailer with a 2011 Toyota Tundra, you will need a fixed 5th wheel hitch, an installation kit, and the trailer will need to be fitted with a Sidewinder.

For a hitch you will need to look at the gross trailer weight and the pin weight of the trailer. The Reese 16K, # RP30047, is a very popular hitch. For a higher capacity, go to the 20K model, # RP30928.

For an installation kit you can use kit # RP30035-309. This is a semi-custom kit that reduces the amount of drilling and thus time it takes to install the kit. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.

Next, for a Sidewinder, you will need to determine the make and model of the pin box on the trailer. This information can usually be found on the pin box itself. Then you can use our FAQ with a table near the bottom and the Sidewinder main page link to determine if there is a fit for your trailers pin box.

A Sidewinder will provide an additional 22 inches of clearance. To determine if you will have enough clearance to tow your trailer, there are some measurements you can take. When the hitch is installed in the truck, the king pin on the trailer will be centered 3-1/2 inches forward of the center of the rear axle. Measure from there to the back of the truck cab, then add 22 inches. Call this measurement A.

Next, measure the width of the trailer overhang at the widest point then divide by 2 to get half. This is measurement B. Measurement A needs to be 4 inches or greater than B in order to safely make 90 degree turns.
