Choosing Proper Set Angle for Replacement Dexter Torsion Axle.
Question:
I have a 1979 Beachcomber and am replacing the axel with the Dexter 3500lbs torsion axel. The axel I removed is definetely shot with the arm sitting at about -15degrees. When we removed the weight off of the axel it didnt move back. I am thinking that I should get a 0degree axel, we want the trailer to sit a little higher than it was anyways. Is there a good way to know which angle to purchase?

To allow for full articulation so you don't have to worry about the tires bottoming out int he wheel wells, I'd recommend going with a 15° down torsion axle. If the original axle was a 0°, this would raise the trailer up a bit. A 'down' axle places the spindle centerline below the frame member, while a 0° would place it even with the frame.
