Recommendations for Reducing Trailer Sway while Towing with a Dodge Magnum

Question:

Can a Dodge Magnum 2005 wagon with factory tow package tow a vintage 22foot Airstream that weighs 2950 lbs? The Dodge is rated to tow 3800 lbs. How would you handle sway control and weight distribution with the hidden hitch? The dodges tow package does include air shocks for load leveling. thank you,

Since the Curt Hitch # 12240 that you referenced has a 1-1/4 inch hitch opening there is not a weight distribution system available for this vehicle since all the systems we offer are for hitches with 2 inch openings.

There is an adapter available that will allow you to use a friction sway control system on your Class II ball mount though. You could get a Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 1-1/4 inch Drawbars # RP26005. This would allow you to use a Reese Friction Sway Control # 83660 with your setup to cut down on sway.

The best way to defend against trailer sway is proper trailer loading. Having as much of the weight of the cargo as far forward as possible will give you the best ride quality. The load leveling air shocks of your Dodge Magnum should help also.
