Bike Rack Recommendation for Bikes With Front Fenders

Question:

Kuat Sherpa 2.0 on fenders. Can this bike rack work on bikes that have front fenders?

We have some very high-quality bike racks similar to the Kuat Sherpa that will work with bikes that have fenders, but because the Sherpa is a wheel-mounted bike rack, the ratcheting hooks will interfere with the front fenders and you won't be able to mount that type of bike. So instead what you need is a bike rack that is a frame-mounted rack.

For a bike rack that will work on a bike with fenders (see accompanying photo) I highly recommend the Saris Freedom 2-Bike Rack # SA4412B, because at just 22-1/2 lbs it is extremely lightweight but still has a 60 lb per bike capacity as well as the ability to tilt and fold. The Freedom also has a shank that rises 8 inches for optimal ground clearance to help ensure it doesn't touch the ground.

The Freedom # SA4412B will be extremely stable due to its included anti-rattle hitch pin and the ratcheting padded cradles that grip your bikes by the frame. These cradles work in conjunction with the ratcheting wheel straps that are on both wheel trays to ensure that you won't have to look out your rear view mirror and see your bikes bouncing around.

This bike rack also has a lever that you only need to push to fold the rack up or tilt it down, which is a quality-of-life feature that makes it really easy to use. It comes with the aforementioned anti-rattle hitch pin, but you can use the Hitch Tite Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock # SA3022 to lock the rack to your hitch and the Saris Cable Lock # SA981 to lock your bikes to the rack.

This is an extremely high-quality rack that is a great value so it is definitely the best choice as an alternative to the Sherpa. I have also added a link to a video reviews for you to check out of the Saris Freedom 2-Bike Rack # SA4412B.
