Can Tekonsha P3 be Installed on 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 Without Using Adapter Harness
Question:
I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 and I was wondering if I could wire the plug that came with my brake controller into a separate plug that goes into my junction box? The plug coming out of the junction box came with the truck when I bought it. The coloring on the insulation doesn’t match but that doesn’t matter as long as I wire it in correctly. I was gonna buy the adapter but didn’t feel like waiting. Is this gonna be an issue?

You can definitely splice in the pigtail that came with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 to the factory wiring on your 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 if you'd rather not wait for shipping on the Adapter # 3016.
I'm not sure what that wiring would look like on the back of the junction box since we have only used the adapter (so you'll kind of be flying solo), but as long as you remember that the color wiring may not match, and you make sure that there is a circuit breaker on the power wire to the battery you should be okay. Here are what the wires from the pigtail for the P3 need to be connected to:
Blue - 7-Way Output to Trailer
Black - 12V Power
White - Ground
Red - COLD Side of Stop Light Switch (only gets hot when brake pedal is pressed)
