If Handle of Worm Gear Winch is Let Go Does Winch Handle Move

Question:

Will this winch hold the weight you are lifting when you stop cranking. What holds it there safely, as there is no ratcheting lock mechanism. Also the DL10970 is rated for 2000 lbs, do you have the same style winch lesser rated as I only need it to lift 100 lbs. Thank you

Worm gear winches by design are brake winches so if you let go of the handle it hold the weight in the exact position. Since it's a screw that rides on a gear the release of the handle does not force the handle to move and it actually locks it in place.

The lowest rated version of a worm gear winch is the part # DL10954 which has a 1,500 lb capacity and is already setup to be a ceiling hoist like you are wanting as well. I attached a review video for this for you to check out as well.
