The installation time of the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 will vary largely by skill level. That said, for a beginner/novice I would estimate around 2-4 hours from start to finish. It's not hard per se but it does take time running all the wires and securing them properly. This will then allow you to install a standard brake controller like the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160.
If you are looking for an easier to install option, the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L is the way to go. This kit only requires you to plug the two 4-ways in together, ground the white wire, then run the black power wire to the battery taking most only around 1 hour. That said, it must then be used with a wireless brake controller, the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180.
