Can I Use A ST205/75R14 For A Spare Tire On Trailer With ST205/75D14 Tires

Question:

My trailer tires are an st 205 / 75 D14 and the trailer is used to pull a drift boat. I am needing a SPARE tire. for my trailer. Should I go with the same tire or will an st 205 / 75 R14 suffice or is their an even better option. Thanks

Since you are not replacing all of your tires, I do not recommend to use a ST205/75R14 to use as a spare because it is not a good idea to mix radial and bias ply tires. The D in your existing tire size means it's a bias tire and the R stands for radial.

Mixing radial tires with bias tires could result in uneven tire wear because they radials are more flexible. I recommend using Americana ST205/75D14 part # AM1ST52 to use as a spare if your tires are a load range C. This Taskmaster tire is rated for 1,760 lbs at 50 psi. I do recommend having a spare tire with the same load range as your existing tires to avoid uneven wear as well.

However, you may consider replacing all of your tires with a radial Provider ST205/75R14 Trailer Tire part # TR20514 in the future. Since they are more flexible, they are better at dissipating heat which is the leading cause of blow outs.
