Correct Trailer Wiring for a 1997 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
I have 97 jeep wrangler Im trying to wire a 4 wire trailer to it. I dont understand how the break and turn can share the same wire. When I use the break I cant use the turn signal and when I use the the turn signal for one side it sends power to the other side. How is it even possible for them to share the same wires. Im so confused and frustrated Ive never been able to figure this out! Please help.

I understand it can seem confusing but there is an easy solution. Very Easy! If you use the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118356 it will simply plug into the plugs beside each tail light. It will then send the signal to the 4 way trailer connector that you will hook the trailer to.
The reason it works is because your Jeep is telling the wiring what to do. When you are stopped brakes pressed and turning left the blinker still blinks it sends that same signal through to the trailer connector then through the trailer. I've included a video of the installation below and also the instructions should you have any questions.
