5th Wheel Hitch Comparison and Recommendation for 2019 RAM 2500 Long Bed with Tow/Prep Package

Question:

I'm looking at either the Demco Highjacker or the B & W Companion 5th wheel hitch for my 2019 Ram 2500 long bed. My truck does have the package that includes the pucks in the bed floor. Which of the two is the best choice?

Quality and features-wise, lets start with ride quality. The B&W # BWRVK3600 uses a one inch thick slab of metal for the hitch jaws, so it will tightly grip the fifth wheel's king pin. This means the king pin won't rattle around in the jaws and cause banging and clanging and would thus provide very good ride quality. The Demco # DM6076P-21K Hijacker jaw isn't quite as thick, but the one piece wrap around jaw will do just as good of a job immobilizing that king pin, so the ride quality provided would also be excellent.

As far as capacity goes, the B&W has a 25K capacity, versus the 21K capacity of the Demco Hijacker.

Ease of installation and convenience is also very important. The B&W will drop directly into the bed pucks and latch right in (after possibly needing an initial adjustment), while the Demco Hijacker will need a # DM6099 adapter. This adds an additional step to the install that will a bit more time.

Because of the higher capacity and easier installation, I'd choose the B&W in almost every instance. The only exception would be if you needed the tallest hitch available. When adjusted to full height, the Hijacker with the # DM6099 adapter will place the skid plate at 21-3/8 inches above the bed floor, which is 1-3/8 inches taller than the B&W.

If you don't already have one, you can use # PK11893-11932 to install a 7-way trailer connector into the truck bed.
