I have great news. We have just what you need to get your 2020 Subaru Outback setup with a brake controller and the corresponding 7-way trailer connector. For this, you are going to need to start with a 4-way and for this I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118467 which is plug-n-play and it's a very reliable brand. Then, you can convert the 4-way to a 4-way and 7-way with the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L. The 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation when used with the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 only requires very minimal work for installation which is what makes this such as great package.
The two 4-ways plug into one another, the white wire gets grounded, and then you run the black wire to the battery but that's it. There is no splicing into vehicle wires or running wires in and outside the cab nor do you need to drill into your dash to mount the controller. It uses your phone for the manual braking so you have everything you need at your fingertips in emergencies. The only other thing you might need is a bracket to hold the 7-way, part # C57202.
