Parts Needed to Install a Hopkins Trailer Brake Controller on a 2012 Dodge Ram
Question:
Hi, i have a 2012 dodge ram. i bought a hopkins brake controller. when i look under the dash i find a wire harness but i have no clue what wire is what. can you please help by sending me pictures of what these wire are? this harness is a grey 4 pin. thanks

Since you have a connector on your 2012 Ram 1500 and a Hopkins brake controller, you can just use the plug and play harness # 3021-S. Otherwise, you would need to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if needed and test the wires on the connector you found for function.
The 12-volt power and brake light wire will be easy to find but the ground and the brake output will not because they will not have power to test. On the truck find the 12-volt power pin. Hold the plug so that the 12-volt power pin is in the bottom right side of the plug if looking at the pins. Above the 12-volt power pin should be ground. Next to ground should be input from stop light switch. Below stop light switch should be output to trailer brakes.
On the brake controller, white is ground, black is 12-volt power, red is input from the brake switch and blue is output to the trailer brakes.
