Replacement Heavier Rated Spring Bars For Reese Weight Distribution Head RP58167
Question:
I am looking to replace my 1500# Reese spring bars with 1700 or heavier due to increased tongue weight. The Reese bars I have, I purchased from you about 5 years back. The stickers are not legible, but they are stamped 1500812. They are flat bars, and are approximately 32.5 inches from the center of the chains to center of trunnions. I dont have much room for adjustment on my trailer tongue, especially for additional length. Will this 1700 bar work? Are the Curt trunnions compatible with my 5 year old Reese hitch head? I was actually looking for 1750# or 1800#, but dont want to replace my entire hitch setup. Thanks!

I was able to look at your account and it t looks like you have the Replacement Head for Reese Weight Distribution System part # RP58167. When you ask if you can replace the spring bars with a 1700 bar I believe you are referring to Reese Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar part # 66010 which is compatible with the Reese Distribution head part # RP58167 that you have. The Curt spring bars can only be used with Curt weight distribution heads. Although the spring bars are rated for a heavier tongue weight they are not longer then your other bars so you won't need to worry about that.
The Reese spring bars only go up to 1700 lbs which is a spring bar rated for tongue weights between 1,000 lbs - 1,700 lbs. Ideally you want your tongue weight to fall in the middle range of the rating of the spring bars so please keep that in mind. The 1700 lbs tongue weight is about as heavy duty as weight distribution spring bars get. We do not carry weight distribution systems that can handle more than 1700 lbs tongue weight.
