Recommended Bike Carrying Options for 2013 Ford Edge

Question:

Ford does not have a trailer option for the 2013 Edge which rules out my normal trailer hitch mount options. in fact used at Thule Hitch mount on my Ford Explorer and really liked it. Would the Thule OutWay 2 Bike Carrier - Trunk Mount TH45JV work, or is there another mount that you would suggest? Thanks in advance.

Although Ford doesn't offer the option, there is an aftermarket hitch available for your 2013 Edge Sport, the Draw-Tite Class III, part # 75728. Going this route would allow you to use your Thule rack, if you still have it. If the rack was designed to be used in a 1-1/4 inch receiver, a reducer sleeve like part # HT02 is an easy solution that would allow you to continue using your rack.

If you're interested in a new hitch mounted bike rack, Thule offers the excellent Hitching Post Pro, part # TH934XTR, which is an excellent reasonably priced option.

Thule has confirmed that their OutWay hatch mounted bike rack, part # TH45JV for the 2 bike model or # TH56BV for the three bike model would be compatible with your 2013 Edge Sport model.

If you'll be transporting women's bikes or bikes with sharply-angled top tubes, you might also consider a frame adapter bar like part # 64005. The bar spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, which provides a secondary attachment point for the bike rack. This allows the bike to be carried level, which maximizes ground clearance.
