Can I get install instructions for Reese universal mount rails. I am installing on a 2006 Chevy 1500 crew cab with 5 1/2 foot bed also I have been told I need a sidewinder I have the Reese 16k slider hitch do I really need the sidewinder or is just recommendation

You really need a Sidewinder. A slider hitch is not going to provide nearly enough travel for you to be able to safely make 90 degree turns without hitting the truck cab against the trailer overhang. Even a Sidewinder, which moves the pivot point back 22 inches, may not be enough depending on the width of the trailer overhang.
You can use a slider hitch but it must remain in the towing position when using a Sidewinder. Otherwise there will be too much stress on the system.
The Reese universal installation kit is # RP30035 and I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. Once installed the center of the king pin on the trailer will be centered over the rear axle. Measure from that point on the truck forward to the back of the truck cab. Then add 22 inches for the Sidewinder. If the king pin extends out forward of the trailer overhang, measure from the front of the trailer overhang to the center of the king pin and add that distance too.
This measurement must be at least 4 inches more than half the width of the trailer overhang to safely make 90 degree turns. You will need to check the trailer pin box for the manufacturer and model number to determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit. I have included a link to an FAQ on Sidewinders for you.
