Recommended Dual Hitch Receiver To Carry Bike Rack and Flat Tow Vehicle

Question:

I have an RV w/10,000 lb towing capacity. If I add an extended dual hitch by what Ive read does this cut down my towing capacity to 5,000 LBS? I want to add a bike rack 200 Lbs=3 bikes plus rack and tow a car. By my math 5,000 -200=4,800 lbs. So I can assume 4,800 is the max my tow car can weigh? Please advise me if Im thinking about this correctly.

The use of the hitch adapter such as the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver part # MPG544 does cut the towing capacity of your hitch in half. It is not the towing capacity of the RV or vehicle but the hitch itself. You will want to cut the tongue weight rating of your hitch in half and do not exceed that figure when using an adapter. However, this Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver is designed for towing a trailer and carrying a bike rack. It is not designed for flat towing a vehicle.

I recommend the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter part # RM-077-8 to carry the bike rack and flat tow the vehicle. Since this high low adapter is designed for flat towing it does not reduce your tongue weight rating of the hitch by half. It is rated for 10,000 lbs.
