How to Determine Correct Double-Eye Leaf Spring Replacement for 6,000 lb Axle

Question:

I need to replace a spring on a 6000 lb axle. The spring on the trailer has a metal tag with these numbers stamped: EMCO DCB3 AWS-4. Does this relate to the size? It is a four leaf.

I can tell you how to determine the correct leaf spring replacement, though those numbers don't have anything to do with size. They are probably a serial number or some other type of manufacturer ID but nothing of consequence.

Instead, the best way to determine if a double-eye spring will fit is by measuring the length from the center of the spring eye to the end of the spring, as you can see in the accompanying diagram (the best way to get an accurate length of a leaf spring is with the trailer up on jacks with the axle hanging).

For example, the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles # e94SR measures 26 inches from spring eye to spring eye. Keep in mind when measuring your spring you can take some elongation into consideration as they will stretch (flatten out) slightly over time. So if your spring was 26-1/2 inches, then this 26 inch spring would still work for you.

I have added a link below to our entire selection of 6,000 lb axle double-eye leaf springs.
