Do Trailer Rims and Trailer Tires Weight Ratings Need to Match?
Question:
Should you match the wheel weight rating to the tires. My wheel says 1760 and the Kenda Karrier tire is rated 2200 ,should I get new wheels to match or does it matter. Thank you.

When setting up Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Tire # AM10235 and the 14" White Spoke Wheel part # AM20352 the rim and tires weight ratings do not have to match. For instance since the tire is rated for 2200 lbs. the rim could very well be rated for 2100 lbs. but because you always use the lowest rated component in any setup as your max weight rating we state on our site that the rim also has a 2100 lb. capacity to keep any confusion to a minimum.
So no wheel and tire weight ratings don't have to match but you should always use the lowest weight rating of either the wheel or the tire to determine your max weight rating.
