Service Electric Brake System Light on a 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 with Factory Brake Controller
Question:
I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500. I recently had an alarm come up on my truck that say Service Trailer Brake System. I was pulling my trailer and noticed my brakes where hot. Upon further investigation I noticed I was getting 1.7 volts on the pin with no trailer connected causing the brakes on the trailer to be slightly engaged. Any ideas what would cause this? Thanks for any answers you can provide.

It sounds like you have an integrated brake controller on the 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500. The "service trailer brake system" displays when there is a short with the integrated brake controller.
I recommend to take a look at your trailer connector to make sure the pins are clean of rust or corrosion. If the 7-way pins are bent and you're not getting a proper connection then you could have a short. I recommend to have the truck to the dealership to be serviced.
