How to Determine if 5th Wheel Hitch Will Have Enough Clearance on 2019 GMC Sierra 2500

Question:

I have a 2019 GMC 2500 HD diesel. These new trucks are way too high. Will the Demco hitch ensure that my 2020 cougar fifth wheel will pull level and will there be 6” of clearance between the bed rails and bottom of the unit?

I'm glad you mentioned how high the trucks are getting now because they are making it very difficult to tow level and get the proper clearance, and the truth of the matter is we can't tell you what hitch will let you tow level and have the clearance you are looking for. The best we can offer is to tell you how to measure, which is to park your 2019 GMC Sierra 2500 and 2020 Cougar 5th wheel on level ground and measure the space between the top of the truck bed side rails and the underside of the trailer. You will need to use that height, along with the height from your truck's bed floor to the bottom of the skid plate to determine any clearances.

The hitch I would recommend considering that can sit lower and on your standard above-bed base rails is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Slider # DM8550034 (18,000 lbs) or # DM8550035 (21,000 lbs).

Both of the Hijacker's are adjustable from 15-1/4 inches to 18 inches tall.
