Where To Start When RV Steps Make Noise and Wont Fully Retract/Extend
Question:
I have a 2017 Fleetwood Discovery. My steps are not retracting all the way and are making a grinding noise. They will extend all the way but when it does it also make the same noise. Can you tell me what the problem could be?

It could be a few things but it depends on what steps you have. The motor could be bad but I'd be more inclined to think there's a linkage or gear issue that's basically bogging down the motor preventing the steps from fully retracting or extending. I'd first try visually inspecting the steps from underneath to see if you can see anything obvious that's bad. Also while down there try to get any part number info that you can. Next try moving far enough out of the way of the path of the steps and watch them extend while still underneath to see if you can see anything obvious. Let me know what you find!
