Testing and Replacing ITBC on 2011 Ford F350
Question:
How can i test to see if the factory TBC is working or not, and can I disconnect the factory TBS and install a different controller

Expert Reply:
Because the ITBC in your F350 is proportional, you can test for voltage output using the override switch but not with the brake pedal because the controller will not have more than a volt or two of output unless the truck is moving. Have helper hit the override switch, while you test the brake output pin on the 7-way using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. The brake output pin is in the 5:00 position in the 7-way connector.
If you should find that the controller is faulty, you can unplug the unit from the back. Unplugging the controller will cause a fault code to appear on the dash display. Your Ford dealer can re-flash the computer to remove this code.
The Tekonsha Prodigy P2 you referenced is a very good choice for a brake controller. It is simple to install and easy to set up. You will need a wiring adapter, part # 3034-P which would allow the P2 to plug into the wiring harness that you removed from the rear of the ITBC.
