Parts To Tow A Trailer With Electric Brakes With A 2015 Dodge Durango V6
Question:
Thank you for your response Heather, is there another option for a brake controller? I have an iPhone 7, I guess I could upgrade to a newer phone if necessary. Thanks again!

To tow a trailer with electric brakes with the 2015 Dodge Durango without tow package, you will need a trailer hitch, 4-way wiring, 7-way plug, brake controller, ball mount and lock.
For the hitch, I recommend Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch part # C13182 which is an easier installation compared to the other options that require removal of the impact structure. It does not require drilling to install and can be installed with a 18" spare tire stowed under the vehicle. I have attached a video for your reference.
You will also need Tekonsha 4-Pole flat part # 118617 which plugs in behinds the tail lights. The Tekonsha brand of wiring is known to be a bit more reliable compared to the other options especially the converter boxes. I have attached an installation video for your reference.
To upgrade the 4-pole to a 7-way you need part # ETBC7L which is specifically designed for the use with the Curt Echo Brake Controller part # C51180. The only wiring required for the 7-way plug to use the Echo is the black power wire to the Durango's battery via the included 40 amp circuit breaker. You will also need to ground the 7-way plug to a clean bare metal surface of the vehicle's frame. The 4-pole will plug into the pigtail that is coming off of the 7-way plug.
The Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller can be setup and controlled with your smart phone, Apple with an operating system 8.0 to newer or an Android with an operating system 4.4 to newer. This is the easiest way to install a brake controller on the Durango because it only requires the 12V power from your 7-way to operate.
Finally to tow level, you will need a ball mount with the proper rise or drop. When we installed the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver C13182 on a 2015 Dodge Durango it was about 14" from the ground once installed. You want to measure the distance from the bottom of your ball coupler to the ground. If the trailer coupler is higher than the hitch you need a ball mount with a rise and if the hitch height is more than you need a ball mount with a drop. I have attached a helpful article for your reference a long with the Class III compatible ball mounts we carry.
I also recommend to get a hitch lock part # e98882 to protect your investments.
