Can Curt Trailer Hitch # 11083 be Modified to Clear the Tow Hook on a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta Wagon

The passenger side of the 11083 partially, but significantly obstructs the tow hook loop. Is it safe to cut away just enough of the 11083 to leave the entire tow hook loop exposed so it remains fully functional?

You do not want to modify the Curt trailer hitch # 11083 in any way. Doing so not only will void the warranty but it can also compromise the structural integrity of the hitch making it unsafe for use. The tow hook itself is part of the bracket it is attached to, so you cannot remove it either.

In a case where the tow hook may be needed, the hitch itself can be used in its place. The safety chain loops near the hitch receiver can be used as tie down points. Tow hooks on many vehicles are there as tie down points to transport the vehicles.
