Parts Needed to Install a Brake Controller on a 2005 Toyota Tacoma with 4-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
Bought my truck new in 2005 the dealer put a 4way trailer wire harness on it . Now I have trailer with electric brakes need To go to a 7 way I notice the truck has a brake controller port under the dash on driverside panel dose this mean I have a factory tow package if so is there wires in back for a 7 way plug the dealer was clueless your thoughts on what I need. Would like to think I could use the port without running separate wires from the back to the front of the truck for the controller

Expert Reply:
Since your 4-Way was installed by the dealer and not from the factory your 2005 Toyota Tacoma will not have the factory tow package. You will need to add a 4 and 7 Way installation kit # ETBC7 to add a 7-Way and the wiring for a brake controller.
I have included some links that explain how to install the ETBC7 kit that should help you. For a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. It is one of our best selling brake controllers because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation instructions for it as well.
