Question:

I need a new hitch on my tow vehicle 2007 GMC Sierra which has 6.0L Vortec Max and is fitted with Firestone air shocks to pull a 2010 Keystone Hornet 32 RLS Keystone specs say Hitch weight is 1,045# and dry weight of trailer is approx 7800# I am a widow and need a hitch that is easy for me to hitch and snitch trailer by myself. What do you recommend?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

So assuming your tongue weight is right at 1,050 lbs I'd recommend the Reese kit part # RP66542 as it will perform really well for your 2010 Keystone Hornet 32 RLS. The trick to making installing weight distribution as easy as possible is to use a powered a-frame jack like the Stromberg Carlson # SC63VR. What you can do with a powered jack like this is connect the coupler to the hitch ball and then use the jack to lift the front of the trailer and the rear of the tow vehicle together. This allows the spring bars to easily install to the chain hangers since the jack reduces the spring bar tension as long as the rear of the vehicle is jacked up.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
