Troubleshooting Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller Showing 0.9 Error Code
Question:
I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 Crew Cab. I use a Prodigy Brake Controller that is wired using the GM provided harness. With the trailer not connected I am getting code 0.9 intermittenly. I have added an external hard wired ground to the white wire on the harness with no change. I inspected both ends of the harness with no condition found. I then pluged the trailer lead into the truck. With the running lights on I turned on the hazzard lights and got a soft flashing in all of the trailer lights.I inspected the trailer lead, plug and ground found nothing wrong. The soft flash is gone now after cleaning the trailer lead. However the 0.9 code remains if the the trailer lead is connected or not.Any Idea what is left to check?

When you ran your external ground wire, where on the vehicle did you have it connect? For the best ground connection, it should be connected directly to the negative battery terminal.
You will want to review how you have the OEM connector wired to the controller. The red harness wire should connect to the black wire on the controller, the light blue wire on the harness should connect to the red wire on the controller, the black harness wire connects to the white wire on the controller and the dark blue harness wire should connect to the blue controller wire. The brown wire on the harness is for an illumination circuit and is not needed. It should be capped of and bundled up out of the way.
If all of the above has checked out OK, my contact at Tekonsha tells me that the intermittent grounding problem that you are having indicates an internal problem with the controller, and that the controller should be replaced.
