Prodigy P2 or P3 for a 2019 GMC Yukon

Question:

Which one do you think is best for me? A p2 or p3? I"ve got the round wire plug on the back. My truck I traded in had a controller in it but the new Yukon doesn't. I"m going to use it to tow my boat as often as I cna get to the lake this summer.

Well, we're certainly not going to let the decision of a brake controller keep you off the lake. That'd be a crime.

First of all the easy stuff, to install either the P2, part # 90885, or the P3, part # 90195, use the adapter # 3016. It plugs into a connector in the cab of your new 2019 GMC Yukon and makes installing either controller plug and play. A linked a video of us using the adapter on a 2017 Silverado which has the same GM connector as your Yukon. It's not the same vehicle obviously but the process is the same.

Choosing which controller is a bit more difficult because they're both high quality and they're a lot a like. With that being said, the P3 does have a few extra features that may or may not matter to you. One is its ability to store settings so you don't have to worry about setting the P3 up between trailers. In my opinion this probably won't make a lot of difference to you because it sounds like you'll only be towing your one boat trailer. Another thing the P3 has over the P2 is its diagnostic check to let you know if there's a problem with your trailer's braking system. Since the Yukon is new and has the factory tow package you might not worry too much about this either. On the other hand I don't know how old the boat and trailer are. If they're getting up there in years this is something to think about. Especially since you're not towing everyday and I'm assuming the trailer will probably be sitting every year in the off season.

For another option I'd take a look at the Curt Echo, part # C51180. It's not a traditional brake controller because it plugs into the Yukon's 7-way trailer connector. There's nothing in the cab to get in your way and you control the settings using your smart phone. It's great because when you're not towing you don't have a box drilled into your new dash for you to hit your knee on all the time. You can unplug and keep it somewhere out of the way when you're not using it.

I've linked a video of the Echo so you can take a look at it being used. I've also linked demo videos of both the P2 and P3.
